How does hypnosis work?
Shifts in consciousness in natural hypnotic states allows you to tap into your deeper self where you access your natural abilities. For example, when you work out and experience extreme focus and euphoria, you are in an altered state of consciousness that allows you to achieve more than you would in your ordinary daily state of awareness.
Words and metaphors of daily life communicate to deep parts of the unconscious and hypnotically influence actions and reactions. Because words have power, shifts in voice tone, timing of words, and body language all influence the way you receive information. As a trained hypnotherapist, I use my words carefully in order to help my clients build strong self-confidence and to use their own self-talk in a way that enhances their goals. Conversations can be hypnotic which is why words often impact us more than we thought they would.
Definition of hypnosis
The society of Psychological Hypnosis, Division 30, of the American Psychological Association defines Hypnosis as: “A state of consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness characterized by an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion.”
It is a time-tested technique that facilitates a receptive state of mind. You remain in total control of yourself and your mind. To prepare for Hypnosis I talk to you at length about your goals, images that you feel connected to, and I listen to both your words and body language so I can design a Hypnosis specifically for you.
How I use hypnosis
During Hypnosis I use as many of your words and phrases as I can to achieve the goals you described and set for yourself. During the hypnosis, you deepen your imagery and move into deep relaxation that allows your specific goals to take root and grow so they continue after the session to lead you toward your goals with minimal conscious effort.
Self-Hypnosis is a tool that I teach you to use because it heightens your intention and speeds up your timeline in reaching personal or professional goals.
I first studied Hypnosis at the University of Chicago under the guidance of Erica Fromm, one of the master teachers of Hypnosis at that time. I immediately began using Hypnosis in my practice even helping individuals have surgery using only Hypnosis as the anesthesia. From 2011-2013 I served as President of the Southern California Society for Clinical Hypnosis and in 2013 co-founded the Los Angeles Erikson Institute. I am certified as a consultant for the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and supervise other professionals who are learning to use hypnosis in their practice. I have been working and teaching Hypnosis for many years. It is a valuable tool and can add greatly to your mental health.
